William Stanley is President and CEO of The Stanley-Laman Group, which he co-founded in 1991 with James Laman and David Eaton. The firm was established to provide integrated wealth management services combining investment management, estate planning, and tax strategy for ultra-high-net-worth clients. As CEO, Bill provides strategic direction for the firm's investment platform, oversees client relationships, and coordinates services across the firm's investment and tax planning teams. Bill began his career as an Auditor for General Electric Credit Corporation before joining Capital Analysts, an early adopter of comprehensive team-based financial planning.
In January 2014 Bill joined the board of American Realty Capital Properties, Inc., a NASDAQ-listed REIT later renamed VEREIT, as an independent director, and later became its Lead Independent Director. From December 2014 to March 2015 he served as its Interim Chief Executive Officer and Interim Chairman of the Board while the company restated its financial statements.
Bill's work centers on transitions of closely held family businesses and estates, which involve both complex entity structures and the dynamics of multi-generational families. His role includes mediating family disagreements while structuring technically sound solutions, and his work covers trust structures, business valuation for estate purposes, and wealth transfer strategies that coordinate tax planning with family governance.
Bill holds a Master of Science in Financial Services (MSFS) from The American College and earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designations. He has served on public company boards including American Realty Capital Properties (later VEREIT), New York REIT, and several other American Realty Capital entities. He is a Trustee of the Matrix Biology Institute.
