Firm Overview

Our Foundation

Founded in 1991, Stanley-Laman Group serves ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, and institutions. The firm coordinates investment management with estate, tax, and business planning, so that each is considered alongside the others.

An Integrated Approach

A business sale, a trust distribution, or a significant gift can change a family's tax position, estate plan, and portfolio at once. The firm's portfolio managers, private wealth advisors, and tax and estate professionals review significant decisions together, so that their investment, tax, and estate consequences are weighed as a whole.

Research

The firm's portfolio managers draw on three proprietary research systems that the firm has built. Ad-Star® assesses publicly traded companies across more than ten thousand financial measures, identifying those that meet the firm's standards for earnings quality and financial health. The Fusion Engine® puts research questions to a panel of AI models from many developers, cross-examines their conclusions against one another and against the evidence, and advances only the findings that withstand that scrutiny. Zygent AI™ coordinates teams of AI agents that conduct research and build the firm's quantitative research platform, under strict, purpose-built controls.

The Fusion Engine and Zygent AI support macroeconomic research and research for some of the firm's strategies. A person reviews the output of all three systems before it is used in any investment decision. None of the systems makes investment decisions, which remain with the portfolio managers, and, like any analytical tool, each can be wrong.

Principles & Philosophy

The Stanley-Laman Group, Ltd. is an SEC-registered investment adviser and a fiduciary to its advisory clients, owing them duties of care and loyalty. Its advisory fees are generally a percentage of assets under management. Stanley Laman Group Securities, LLC, a limited broker-dealer under common ownership with the firm, sells variable universal life insurance and earns commissions on those sales. Some of the firm's principals and employees are registered representatives of that broker-dealer or licensed insurance agents, and may receive commissions on insurance they sell, which creates a conflict of interest. Form ADV (opens adviserinfo.sec.gov) and Form CRS describe the firm's affiliations and the conflicts they create.

Client Experience

Clients work directly with the principals and senior portfolio managers responsible for their portfolios, supported by the firm's private wealth advisors, tax and estate professionals, and operations staff. Before making recommendations, the firm learns each client's priorities, structures, and objectives, and returns to them as circumstances change.
